2:10 Kelso – Perfect Candidate 10/1 – 0.5pt ew – Racing on Sundays is never so great. I need to just go with what I fancy and only pick what stands out. This is my only bet for Sunday. It would be easy to read from the form and say Fergal O’Briens 11 year old can be dismissed but for me that’s not the case. He was simply up against it with some of the races he has faced like when pulled up last time against several classy horses in a hot Grade 3 Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. De tried to lead but just wasn’t up to it but there’s much more chance to dictate in a race like this. With a mark of 147, and a 7lb claimer he effectively races off a mark of 140. Yes that still means he concedes weight to a few of these but on his day he is the best of this bunch. This is the lowest mark has been on for over two years, and although he is certainly getting no younger, the races is packed full of older campaigners so his age doesn’t worry me. He has never raced here, but this trainer is in form and conditions are fine for the horse. He is going slightly less in distance than usual but he did win over this shorter trip a couple of years ago. Can hopefully run in to at least a place at pretty nice odds.
