This is a little different to a normal Saturday for us. I can’t say anything jumps out of the page at any of the ‘big’ meetings on Saturday. I’ve found 3 I like but they are from elsewhere.
2.15 Weatherby – Nuts Well 5/1 – 1pt win – Ann Hamilton has a small stable, meaning she can get a lot of horses ready for certain races. I’m sure they’ll have this Gelding ready after being pulled up last time. In fairness the jump cost him dearly and his hopes were dashed at that point. Prior to that he won two races in class two company with marks of 136. He has a mark of 137 here, however a claimer on top removing 7lb. That said, he effectively races off 130 here, which is 6lb less than what he won with in a higher grade. Conditions suit, and If he is freshened up and jumps well he goes close.
5:45 Wolves – Marbahan 11/4 – 1pt win – It’s hard to comment on past runs with this horse, because he hasn’t had any. This New Approach Colt was a 240,000Gns Yearling purchased by this top yard. Appelby is 12/40 (30%) with 2year old newcomers, and has a 27% strike rate with all 2 year olds at this course since early 2017. The bookies has the Gosden Colt as a 5-4 favourite but he’d have to improve from a 10length 4th on debut.
6:45 Wolves – Charming Kid 7/2 – 1pt win – Colt from a yard with some pretty handy sprinters. Won well on debut, and followed that up with a difficult day in the Norfolk Stakes at Ascot. He was then upped to 6f where he ran a cracker in third behind konchek and advertise. He was dissapoiting on his last run 128 days ago when last in a hot Goodwood Group 2. He is back from a break, if and reproducing form anything close to that of where he was only 2 lengths behind the 118 rated Advertise, then this race would be there for the taking.
